Elizabeth City, N.C. — Elizabeth City State University’s (ECSU) 2025 Viking HomEComing is underway, with the campus buzzing as alumni, students, faculty, and community members gather for a week of celebration. The opening events—the Coronation of Mister and Miss ECSU Sunday and Tuesday’s high-energy student showcase—have set an enthusiastic tone for a memorable weekend in Elizabeth City.
“Our alumni and students bring unmatched energy to campus,” said Chancellor S. Keith Hargrove. “HomEComing celebrates not only our traditions, but also the transformation of ECSU,” Hargrove added as he spoke of the institution’s expanded academic offerings, added facilities and commitment to student success.
This year’s theme, “Viking Daze,” pays homage to Spike Lee’s 1988 classic film School Daze, which spotlighted life, identity and activism at a historically Black college. ECSU’s theme captures the same energy and cultural pride of college life that Lee’s film evoked, inviting Vikings to celebrate the spirit of HBCU life.
As the week builds toward its finale, anticipation is growing for the weekend’s signature events. Friday, students, alumni and friends will come together for a Circle of Excellence Brunch, Chancellor’s Alumni Reception, and top the night off with a Greek Step Show. Saturday’s festivities begin at 9 a.m. with the Homecoming Parade through downtown Elizabeth City, followed by the Vikings’ highly anticipated football game against Bluefield State. Tailgating, live music and campus tours will round out the day as thousands of Vikings reconnect and celebrate their shared legacy.
